Community Action of Allegan County Launches Partnership with Apex Clean Energy to expand Utility Assistance for Wayland-area families
Community Action of Allegan County and Apex Clean Energy have announced a new partnership to expand access to crisis utility assistance for families in the Wayland area.
Through the Blazing Star Solar Community Grant Program, Apex Clean Energy is contributing $15,000 towards an expansion of the crisis utility assistance program for residents of Wayland Township, the City of Wayland, and the surrounding area.

Blazing Star Solar Awards Fall 2025 Community Grants to Support Local Nonprofits, Schools, and Downtown Revitalization Efforts
Wayland Township, MI — October 2025 — Apex Clean Energy is proud to announce four Allegan County organizations selected through the latest round of the Blazing Star Solar Community Grant Program. From hands-on environmental education to robotics, food access, and downtown revitalization, this fall’s recipients are making meaningful contributions across Allegan County.
Launched in 2023, the Blazing Star Solar Community Grant Program supports local initiatives focused on education, economic development, sustainability, and community well-being. To date, more than $40,000 has been awarded to organizations making a lasting impact in Allegan County.
The four organizations were chosen for their community impact and alignment with the grant program’s mission.

Spring 2025 Community Grant Highlight - Wayland Fire Department
Earlier this year, a Blazing Star Solar Community Grant helped the Wayland Fire Department purchase a new inflatable fire safety classroom — a colorful, portable space designed to teach kids and families how to stay safe during an emergency.
The classroom lets firefighters bring hands-on lessons directly to schools and local events, turning fire safety education into an interactive, memorable experience for students across Allegan County.
It’s a great example of how local partnerships can spark creative ways to engage, educate, and keep our communities safe.
